Bartlett & West has had the privilege of working with our clients on a number of award-winning projects. Here are some recent examples of where our work has earned the recognition of our peers.

2010 Great American Main Street Award and
2009 Greatest Achievement Award for Best Downtown Revitalization

Bartlett & West assisted the City of Lee's Summit in revitalizing their historic downtown area and as a result, the City received two awards. The Great American Main Street Award is one of only five presented each year by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The 2009 award, Greatest Achievement Award for Best Downtown Revitalization, was presented by the Missouri Main Street Connection. The project rejuvenated the downtown infrastructure to improve storm water flow, resolve several long standing maintenance issues and comply with modern design standards. Bartlett & West's portion of the project included surveying, support to the public involvement and the design
of all underground utilities.

Excellence in Construction, President's Award

The team of Bartlett & West and Grimm Construction earned the 2009 President's Award for our client BNSF's New Wheel Truing Facility (Industrial category, $1-5M). The award is the highest given by the Heart of America Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors' Excellence in Construction program. Bartlett & West provided engineering design and construction observation on the project.

National Rural Water Association Great American Taste Test

Bartlett & West helped its client, the South Central Regional Water District, win the Water Taste Contest at the 2009 North Dakota Rural Water Conference, and then represent North Dakota in Washington, DC during the National Rural Water Association's Rural Water Rally, where it placed in the top five in the nation. The water was judged based on criteria of clarity, color, odor and taste. The Great American Taste Test is held each year on Capitol Hill in conjunction with the Rural Water Rally in Washington, DC, where nearly 50 state rural water systems represent their respective states to compete for top honors after having won at the state level. The winning water comes from South Central Regional Water District's new water treatment plant, designed by Bartlett & West. 

Engineering Excellence

The 2008 Engineering Excellence Award by ACEC-ND (American Council of Engineering Companies of North Dakota) in the category of Water & Wastewater projects was given to Bartlett & West and the South Central Regional Water District (SCWD) for its Angle Well and Ozone/Membrane Water Treatment Plant project.   

Project of the Year in Transportation

The Kansas Chapter of the American Public Works Association gave the 2006 Project of the Year in Transportation award for projects in the $2-10 million category for the Wanamaker Road, 37th to 41st Streets project in Topeka, Kansas. This project was the first phase in a series of improvements along the Wanamaker corridor. Included in the improvements were two multi-lane roundabouts and a five-lane roadway connecting the intersections.

North Dakota American Public Works Association Project of the Year

An innovative project designed by Bartlett & West's Rural & Regional Water staff garnered awards and considerable national attention. The Angle Well Construction for North Burleigh County Service Area project won the 2005 North Dakota American Public Works Association Project of the Year, and was the subject of articles in both the influential Engineering News Record (ENR) and the Water Well Journal, published by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). It then went on to earn the 2006 National Ground Water Association Outstanding Ground Water Project Award. The project used innovative angle wells to maximize the value of the water source.

Public Works Project of the Year

Bartlett & West teamed with HNTB and the City of Lee's Summit, MO to earn the 2008 Kansas City Metro Chapter APWA (American Public Works Association) Public Works Project of the Year in the $10 to $100 Million Transportation category. The downtown streetscape improvement project dealt with portions of historic downtown Lee's Summit over 100 years old. Bartlett & West was able to design infrastructure that accommodated the existing framework of one-hundred-year-old construction practices. 

County Public Improvement Award

The SW 53rd and Wanamaker Road Improvement Project in Shawnee County, Kansas, received the 2008 County Public Improvement Award in the category of population 10,000 and above from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Kansas (ACEC/KS) in cooperation with the Kansas Association of Counties. This project is just the second phase in a series of improvements that will be made along the Wanamaker corridor, transforming the roadway from a two-lane county road to a multi-lane, high volume urban arterial to serve increasing demand as development continues on the southern edge of Topeka, Kansas. The project is serving the growth of Topeka, not only today, but preparing for the future as well.
