  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES OF POSITION:  (All duties as directed to include, but not limited to the following):

    ·        Produce maps, provide web-based mapping support, develop spatial and non-spatial databases, and provide technical support to other GIS staff or team members.

    ·        Meet with users (staff or clients) to develop project requirements and use those specifications to promote the development of GIS application solutions.  

    ·        Use advanced technical skills to ensure GIS technology is used properly and efficiently in the company.  

    ·        Assist in the planning for GIS projects, including development of the project scope, task organization, estimates of effort and other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project. 

    ·        Participate in the production of project deliverables. 

    ·        Communicate openly and frequently with clients during the course of a project to ensure that all issues are addressed efficiently to the client’s satisfaction.  Prepare, conduct and document all progress reviews and other meetings.

    ·        Develop and participate in ongoing client maintenance and support opportunities such as presentations and relationship-building activities.

    ·        Stay abreast of new geographic information trends and technologies.  Participate in professional organization(s) in the analyst’s area of expertise and/or client focus. 

    ·        Oversee the assignments of other GIS Analysts and GIS Technicians assigned to the project to meet project deadlines; mentor and develop project team members.

    ·        Participate in the training of employees and clients, including the design and development of a training program. 

     

     

    EDUCATION:  BS/BA in Geography, Geographic Information Science (GIS), Cartography, Computer Science, or Engineering.

     

     

    SKILLS/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:  

    ·    5 -7 years experience demonstrating an increase in the complexity of responsibilities and analysis.

     

    ·    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, and interpersonal skills to maintain client and employee relationships.

    ·        Understanding and experience with linear Referencing Systems.

    ·        Demonstrated project lead experience of one to two years.

    ·    Solid background and understanding in geographic concepts, computer and computer application skills.

    ·    Extensive experience with GIS software (ESRI, AutoDesk, Bentley, Intergraph) exhibiting a depth of knowledge.

    ·    Detailed technical proficiencies:

                -Principles of cartography, including coordinate systems and projections, map composition,

                 symbology

    -Spatial Data acquisition/production, analysis, interpretation and management

    -Spatial analysis and geoprocessing tools

    -GIS use and application (geocoding, linear referencing, routing, networks, CAD-GIS

      interaction, metadata, symbology, web-based mapping applications, WMS/web services,

      DEMs and hillshades).

    -Aerial photography and other raster expertise (manipulation, acquisition, use)

    -GPS familiarity
