Kansas Turnpike
Authority, Kansas City, Kansas to Lawrence, Kansas
When the turnpike engineer needed help
gathering survey information for new highway improvements
they called on Bartlett & West to provide the
survey crews. Work lasted for several months and covered
approximately 11 miles of roadway. Many companies would not
have been able to handle a project of this magnitude in such
a short timeframe. However, Bartlett & West can call on
crews from its many office locations to work jointly on a
project, while continuing to perform the survey needs of its
other clients. The turnpike engineer will take the
information gathered by Bartlett & West’s survey crews and
design roadway improvements necessary to safely carry future
traffic volumes. Meanwhile, we will soon begin the next
phase of KTA survey work.

Prairie Band
Potawatomi Nation – Mayetta, Kansas
The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation
Reservation covers an extensive area comprising 99 square
miles or 63,360 acres of land in Jackson County. A gaming
establishment has provided them with funds to improve the
reservation’s infrastructure. Bartlett & West survey crews
have researched right-of-way, performed boundary and
topographic surveys, and executed construction staking for
most of that infrastructure. Because of the vastness of the
property, there have been times that aerial surveys are
needed, and Bartlett & West works closely with aerial
companies to gather the data needed in the most timely and
cost-effective manner. |

Riverside Business
Park Sanitary Sewer Improvements Construction Administration
– Lawrence, Kansas
After providing engineering and
surveying services for the Riverside Business Park Sanitary
Sewer Improvements project, the City of Lawrence asked
Bartlett & West to provide construction administration
services for the project. The project included a 1.0 MGD
sanitary sewer pump station, 2,830 LF of 8” gravity sanitary
sewer, 2,645 LF of 10” gravity sanitary sewer, and 1,930 LF
of 8” force main. Bartlett & West’s responsibility for the
construction administration portion of the project was to
act as the City’s representative for the construction of the
project. Bartlett & West offered an experienced field
technician that understands the issues involved in
constructing these types of projects. The technician was
able to forecast future work by the contractor and review
the plans and specifications prior to reaching the next
stage of construction. This level of expertise allowed
Bartlett & West and the contractor to address any issues
prior to reaching a point in construction where the
contractor was waiting on direction to solve potential
problems. Our technician provided contract administration,
daily on-site field observation, shop drawing review, pay
estimate review, and change order processing. One of the
most valued services performed by Bartlett & West was the
preparation of a weekly summary of the contractor’s work
that kept the City abreast of project progress in a brief
one page document organized in a daily format. |
